About This Event
The Mackinac Bridge closes to vehicular from 6:30 am (EDT) to Noon on Labor Day. It will open to pedestrian traffic at about 7 am, after the official gubernatorial delegation, which may include the current Governor of Michigan, or his/her representative, opens the bridge for pedestrian traffic, which takes place at the Northern terminus of the Bridge. You must be off the Bridge by Noon. Dress for the weather and carry water with you. Please comply with the restrictions provided with the map & directions, which will be enforced by the BridgeAuthority and State Police.
Additional Notes
1) During the Mackinac Bridge Walk, you will get a scenic Birdseye view of the historic Straits of Mackinac and the shorelines to the North and South of the Bridge, which provide numerous photo opportunities. 2) The Mackinac Bridge Walk is traditionally on Labor Day, which will fall on Monday, September 7, in 2026. As in years past, participants have the option to begin the walk from the Southern terminus in Mackinaw City or from the Northern terminus in St. Ignace. The map & directions that you download through the OSB will not change and will provide the information that you will need to complete the walk. 3) Information regarding the AVA 50th Anniversary celebration during the Mackinac Bridge Walk will be provided in the associated brochure, which may be downloaded from this public facing Electronic Sanction Request (ESR). The brochure will be subject to change, as additional activities and information becomes available.
